The Occupational Safety Card training first of all provides basic information about the dangers within a working environment. In addition, it covers occupational health and safety in shared workplaces. As a result, participants gain essential knowledge that helps them work more safely.

 A personal safety card is granted to persons who complete the 4 or 7 hour training and the card remains valid for five (5) years.

The Occupational Safety Card (“Työturvallisuuskortti” in Finnish) is required in many fields such as construction business or industry. Do you need to get to work and you work in industry, construction or transportation?

The occupational safety training has been developed to improve safety in the workplace. Moreover, the aim of the training is to promote the safety of workers when working in shared workplaces and to improve cooperation between workers in companies. In addition, in the workplace every worker needs to know his or her responsibilities and obligations, as well as what makes a safe working day.

Do employers and clients accept this Occupational Safety Card?

Yes! The issued card is an official safety card. Furthermore, Our trainers are all approved by The Center For Occupational Safety (TTK). Consequently, the Occupational Safety Card system is managed by The Centre for Occupational Safety. They also maintain a registry of individuals who have completed the card.

What language are the safety card courses in?

All our OSC courses are in English. However, you do not need to be able to write in English for the course, only to understand English. Additionally, you can take the OSC exam in a language other than English if you wish.

How long is the safety card course?

The course lasts either 4 or 7 hours.

– The course is 4 hours long if you are renewing your safety card AND your card is still valid.
– The course is 7 hours long if
1) you are taking the safety card course for the first time OR
2) your previously acquired safety card has already expired.

In addition, at the end of the course, you must complete an online safety card exam. Typically, course participants usually need about 10-30 minutes to complete it. If necessary, you can take the exam 3 times without paying a separate fee.

How long is the card valid?

The safety card is valid for five (5) years. After that, the card can be renewed by taking the OSC course again.

Is the safety card course difficult and what if I don’t pass the safety card exam?

Dont´t worry! If you participate and follow the instructions, you will pass the OSC exam! Moreover, you can take the exam a total of 3 times.

The OSC course contains information on how to:

  • reduce near misses, risky situations and accidents at work
  • help identify workplace stress factors
  • assess the risks associated with working
  • provide guidance and support for on-the-job training and induction at workplaces
  • offer information on health and safety at work and occupational health care
  • motivate and improve the safety skills of all staff
  • prevent damage from occurring
  • highlight commuting safety as part of safety thinking

Occupational safety training in Finland

In Finland The Centre for Occupational Safety and Health manages the Occupational Safety and Health Card scheme. Although the safety card is voluntary, many workplaces require this card from their employees and subcontractors. Indeed, Occupational safety training has been carried out in Finland for several decades. Millions of people have already completed an Occupational Safety Card course. Therefore, the card is proof that you have mastered the basics of occupational safety.

To obtain or renew an Occupational Safety Card, a single day of training is required, followed by an Occupational Safety Card exam. Immediately afterwards, the mobile safety card becomes valid. The safety card is valid for 5 years and is an official certificate of completion of the safety card training. The register of cards is maintained by the Centre for Occupational Safety and Health (OHS).
