Occupational safety training has been developed to improve safety in the workplace. The aim of the training is to promote the safety of workers when working in shared workplaces and to improve cooperation between workers in companies. In the workplace, every worker needs to know his or her responsibilities and obligations and what makes a safe working day.

The Occupational Safety Card course contains information on:

• how to reduce near misses, risky situations and accidents at work
• help identify workplace stress factors
• help assess the risks associated with working
• provide guidance and support for on-the-job training and induction at workplaces
• provide information on health and safety at work and occupational health care
• motivate and improve the safety skills of all staff
• helps prevent damage from occurring
• highlights commuting safety as part of safety thinking

Occupational safety training in Finland

Occupational safety card training is for everyone. In Finland The Centre for Occupational Safety and Health manages the Occupational Safety and Health Card scheme. Although the safety card is voluntary, many workplaces require this card from their emplyees and subcontractors. Occupational safety training has been carried out in Finland for several decades. Few million people in Finland have already completed an Occupational Safety Card course. Completion of the card is recognised as a means of improving safety at work. The card is proof that you have mastered the basics of occupational safety. To obtain or renew an Occupational Safety Card, a single day of training is required, followed by an Occupational Safety Card test. The test includes true/false statements and some open questions.

Occupational safety training includes the Occupational Safety Centre’s learning material, which is given to each participant. Once the safety training and the post-training test have been passed, a course certificate (PDF file) will be sent to the trainee’s e-mail address. The mobile safety card will be valid immediately after completion of the course. In addition, a plastic safety card will be sent to the student by post and will arrive within 2-3 weeks after the training day. The safety card is valid for 5 years and is an official certificate of completion of the safety card training. The register of cards is maintained by the Centre for Occupational Safety and Health (OHS).

We want to bring the training so close to the workplace that it really meets the needs of the workforce. The training is safety assurance and comes with a safety card.
